Federal Bureau of Prisons in Disarray

As most readers know, President Trump and Elon Musk have been making substantial cuts to the federal government. Those cuts have severely affected the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Both the former Director of the Bureau and his replacement as acting director have also resigned---after only 5 weeks. . Two out of the six regional directors, the general counsel, chief information officer and head of the oversight division, are also retiring between now and the end of July. Clearly, the Bureau is in an upheaval, and we expect more delays in resolving issues for inmates. In communications with Bureau staff, we have learned that the Bureau appears to be quite disorganized and many lower level staff are also taking leave and/or severance. These are truly unprecedented times and we have doubled our resolve to assist federal inmates regardless of the apparent mass confusion at the Bureau.
